Let’s celebrate World Bee Day with Martin Miller’s Summerful Gin

The truth might sting, but a world without bees would be a colourless and flavourless world with a lot fewer flowers, fruit, vegetables… and botanicals for producing gin.

That is why Martin Miller’s Gin is supporting World Bee Day, on 20th May 2021 in partnership with the sustainable beekeeping practice Bermondsey Street Bees and top London cocktail venues.

Our partner Sarah Wyndham-Lewis, founder of Bermondsey Street Bees, told us that there are 25,000 species of bee in the world and that only 7 species are honeybees. This is why at Martin Miller’s Gin we think that they all need our support. We have aimed to combine creative honey cocktails with an opportunity to learn about the wider world of the essential pollinators that are our friends the bees.

Our Martin Miller’s Gin’s brand ambassador, Rory O’Sullivan is particularly motivated on this theme. For him honey is one of the best ingredients for gin cocktails as its complex natural flavours bring out the botanicals of the spirit.

Rory, therefore, wanted to support World Bee Day in its mission to protect the bees and have some fun together by creating a new twist on that most classic of gin and honey cocktails, the aptly named Bee’s Knees.

To celebrate the day and raise awareness of the importance of these important contributors to life, some of the top cocktail venues in London will offer their own ultimate Bee’s Knees cocktail, featuring our fragrant and seasonal blend, Martin Miller’s SUMMERFUL Gin and raw artisan honey specially produced by our partners Bermondsey Street Bees.

We hope you’ll agree with us that the result, the Martin Miller’s Gin Bee’s Knees, is a complex, herbaceous and citrus cocktail with cherry-forward notes surprisingly coming from the honey.

Those that indulge in this classic honey-based tipple will also be gifted with enough thyme seeds to plant 7,000 thyme bushes with an explanation on how you can support bee charities!

If you are not lucky enough to be in London or just want to whip up a Martin Miller’s Gin Bee’s Knees with our seasonal gin, Summerful, at home and enjoy it whilst you contemplate the bees in your garden or on your terrace, here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS
50 ml Martin Miller’s SUMMERFUL Gin
25 ml fresh lemon juice
20 ml Bermondsey Street Bees Exmoor Honey

METHOD
1. Add the gin, lemon juice and honey to a shaker.
2. Stir to loosen honey
3. Add cubed ice
4. Shake until chilled.
5. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Bee ready to enjoy this cocktail and sip the balance of nature!
